privacy policy

Last updated: September 8, 2026

This policy covers Barely Notes, Barely Spent, and Barely Said.

Summary

Barely apps do not collect, store, or share any personal data. Your notes and spending data stay on your device.

Data storage

All data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. In Barely Notes, this includes notes, photos, and videos. In Barely Spent, this includes expense entries. In Barely Said, this includes journal entries. Data is shared between each app and its widgets using a local App Group container. Nothing is sent to our servers. We don't have any.

No accounts

Barely apps do not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information.

No analytics

We do not use any analytics, tracking, or telemetry. We don't know how you use the apps, and we don't want to.

No advertising

Barely apps contain no ads and do not use any advertising frameworks or identifiers.

In-app purchases

Barely Notes offers an optional one-time purchase for premium themes (Bokashi). Barely Spent and Barely Said each offer an optional one-time Pro purchase for premium themes and features. These transactions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store any payment information.

Camera and photo library

Barely Notes requests camera access to take photos and videos for your notes, and photo library access to save media. These permissions are only used when you initiate the action. Media is stored locally on your device.

Live Activity

Barely Notes can display your current note on the lock screen using Apple's Live Activity feature. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted anywhere.

Widgets

Barely Notes widgets display your current note on your home screen or lock screen. Barely Spent widgets display your daily spending total and provide an interactive keypad. Barely Said widgets display your daily journal entry and monthly calendar. Data is shared between each app and its widgets using a local App Group container on your device. No data leaves your device.

iCloud sync

Barely Said uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your journal entries across your devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is not accessible to us. Apple manages the encryption and storage.

Currency

Barely Spent detects your device's locale to display the appropriate currency symbol. This detection happens on-device. No location or locale data is transmitted anywhere.

Data retention

Barely Spent automatically deletes expense entries after 7 days. There is no way to recover deleted data. We do not back up or store your data externally.

Children's privacy

Barely apps do not knowingly collect any information from children. The apps do not collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page. Since we don't collect any data, it's unlikely to change.
